Double K Electronics was started in 1991 by Keith Fisher and Keith Jeffries, hence the name. This was about the time
MAF Tech and DSIR were closing down to form a Crown Institute. Double K Electronics is a Private Sector Research Company based in the Bio
Commerce Centre of the Manawatu.
The company is now entering its 12th year and appreciates the wisdom of the AgMARDT board and many others since, for helping the company
start and grow to where it is today. The company continues to successfully apply and receive R&D funding from the Business Development schemes - FORST, Technology NZ and Industry NZ, and also carry out Research and Product Development for others who have obtained funding.
We have to be competitive with innovative ideas to win this R&D funding ahead of other organisations. R&D is focused on the
development of ideas. This usually involves Patents, PCB Design Software and electronic enclosures, taking into account Marketing and
Distribution.
Our involvement with Dairy Automation dates back to 1982-87 period when the first prototypes of the automilker were designed when the
two Keith's' were part of the R&D team of 20 people, and 430 staff employed by Allflex.
The re-invented product - by Double K - was the first in the world to give farmers infra red programming (without menus) of their milking
machine, and used compressed air (in a patented way) to protect the electronics in a wet, chemically harsh environment.
Our innovation continues today with further R&D in the area of more accurate flow rate measurement, pulsation systems controlled by
the flow rate if required, meal feeding based on yield and our focused R&D into better ways to detect mastitis.
